BOMMEL (security)
Bommel's recommendation: the MIAU
The 'Wirtshaus am Ufer' (translates to inn at the riverside) or in short the MIAU is situated right on the opposite site of the canal. It is the café/ restaurant of the Theatre HAU and a great place to sit outside and for awesome Italian food from the cooking pots of real Italians. The interior is rather rustic without fancy nonesense so that the MIAU blends in perfectly with the HAU - high standard without annoying ornaments. Super nice staff, good prices, and theguest of this very special theatre make this place a very recommendable address for a nice breakfast, dinner, or the espresso in between. When the theatre has something extraordinary on the MIAU also runs special events, so evenings at the MIAU often turn out quite surprising. And the staff always remembers to provide a bowl of water for Bommel.
Clara's Tip:
Hi! I'm Clara and I try to keep all the different strings at the reception in order. Thirteen years ago I came to Berlin and just stayed here ever since. Berlin has become the place I feel home at, mostly because I don't feel like an alien here (or at least not like the only alien). So if you want to mingle with us aliens, come for a drink to the 'Cafe Luzia'. You will enjoy it!
My recommendation: the Café Luzia
Located right in the middle of Kreuzberg, the 'Café Luzia' every day attracts lots of costumers - mostly because of it's charming and creative atmosphere. Kreuzberg's famous Oranienstraße at it's best.
The alternative and 'Oldschool' interior seems well arranged, the guests are very international, and its easy to get to know people there. You need to check it out to understand why so many people love the Cafe Luzia with all its weird attitudes. Definitely a special Bar experience and highly recommendable!
Jörg's Tip: Volkspark am Friedrichshain
Hi! I'm Jörg and one of the owners of the Grand Hostel Berlin. For almost 20 years I have been working for airlines and during this time I've seen numerous Hotels and Hostels all over the world. Service and satisfied guests have always been a major part of my professional career.
Berlin is one of the most interesting metroplises worldwide; it is a up-and-coming cosmopolitan city that welcomes everyone- just as our hostel does.
My tip:
Volkspark am Friedrichshain
The Volkspark Friedrichshain is Berlin's first communal park. There you find the Märchenbrunnen (translates fairy-tale fountain), lots of sunbathing areas and trick fountains. The park offers a large choice of activities and is one of Berlin's prettiest and liveliest parks. Inside the park, there are some Restaurants such as the Café Schönbrunn with a Biergarden and a open air movie theatre. For just 6€ you can watch a movie on a mild summer evening. Surely a great evening!
JÖRG RECOMMENDS: THE C.A.N.S.
Hi everyone,
I'm one of the two Jörgs of the Grand Hostel. I came to Berlin 20years ago and somehow got stuck here. In Germany we say: whoever fails in life becomes innkeeper and here I am: one of the two hosts and owners. The Grand Hostel is one of my most recent 'babies'.
My recommendation: The Cafè am Neuen See in the Tiergarden (C.A.N.S.)
In the middle of the Tiergarden there is a Cafè and restaurent located on a lake called Neuer See. In the summer it is a nice and beatifully located biergarden with around 1500 seats outside and around 100 inside. Even though has quite a lot of seats you're sitting nicely under trees and directly at a beatiful lake.
In fall and winter it is a very quiet restaurent, a urban candlelight retreat in the middle of the western city. Probably one of the most romantic places to have a delicious after-work beer.

HEIKE'S TIP: THE TIERPARK
Hi Everyone! I’m Heike. Since the opening in July 2009 I’m part of the Hostel Team and responsible for accountancy, bookkeeping, and staff management – virtually everything that requires paper and a calculator. I was born in Dresden and came to Berlin 24 years ago following my heart. I enjoy being around such a nice team everyday.
My tip: check out the wonderful and widespread Tiergarten in Berlin Friedrichsfelde.
There you can relax while looking at animal babies.
Besides the Zoologischer Garten the Tierpark is the second Tiergarden in Berlin. The Tierpark is the largest zoo in Europe. With it’s 400 acres the Tierpark offers wide spaces for hoofed animals, huge houses for big cats. Elephants, tropical birds and a big snake farm with Europe’s largest collection of poisonous snakes. The historical castle ‘Friedrichsfelde’ in the centre of the Tierpark is a museum today and is open to visitors of the Tierpark. A trip to the Tierpark really takes an entire day, but it will be a very relaxing one!
